Sam’s Monthly Maintenance Tip

by Sam Opoku of Sam’s Total Car Care Centre

Alternators

The purpose of an alternator is to convert mechanical to electrical energy. It’s used to charge the battery and to power all the car’s electric systems when its engine is running. This includes things like your lights, radio and A/C.

It doesn’t require regular maintenance; some signs to look for that your alternator needs repair are:

  • Rolling sound or humming.
  • Battery light flickers or has a dim glow but turns off when the engine is revving and at high speeds.
  • Car battery unexpectedly drains overnight.

The alternator belt should be checked regularly for wear, slippage and loosening. One indicator that you have a loose belt is a loud screeching sound.

Reflexology

by Tracey Ruggiero, New Realm Healing

In today’s society, we are in a constant state of hurry, which causes such great stress on our bodies. In most cases we are not even aware that we are carrying the stress until we lay down in our beds at the end of the day and take inventory of how are body is feeling.

What is your body telling you? The body actually never lies, and for your overall health you would be wise to listen to it.

Did you know that stress contributes to at least 80% of all dis-ease? Reflexology is a great tool for releasing physical stress and its corresponding aches, pains and illnesses.

For some of the more common complaints, here are some easy ways for you to help yourself by targeting certain areas.

Lower Back/Hip/Sciatic Nerve
This is one of the most common complaints and one that is usually greatly relieved by reflexology. With your thumb (if possible) find the top of the ‘C” curve on the OUTSIDE of your ankle bone. With approx. 5 pounds of pressure slowly press all the way down and around your ankle bone. Do this 3 times on each side. (Outside only, do not work on inside ankle bone).

Shoulders/Neck
Again, with approximately 5 pounds of pressure and using your thumbs, press and walk your thumbs along the underside of your foot directly under your toes. (this is your neck area) and then also work on the “pad” that is just under the baby toe. (this is your shoulder area). Repeat on other foot. Also press on the TOP of the foot between the big toe and second toe, starting about 1 inch up the foot and then push down towards the toes. This is the lymphatic Drainage point.

Have a Headache?
Push on the underside of each of your toes…fairly hard.
